Have been asked to write the scope for our applying to be accreditied to 18001. I submitted a scope along the lines of 'to cover the all activities and operations of the Companies Site in England'. This wasn't accepted by the company, as they want more detail. Can anyone give me some advice on writing the scope

thank you

Not being funny but ther is a lot of stuff out there.

BSI have a scope that you can quote also http://www.bsigroup.com/...ment-Checklist-UK-EN.pdf

Try there for starters, you can just put in scope for 18001 and loads come up.

Try here. The scope even with the move to 45001 as Walker has pointed out will basically be the same.

Jon Joe it's also worth watching the video on the BSI website moving from 18001 to 45001 not the moving part but it will give you key words to add into the scope.

I don't know you so i am not trying to be insulting you may have all the key words in.

no insults taken haha....My issue is, previous companies I've worked for, they';ve kept the 'scope' to a bare minimum and its been accepted, although this time, I'm being asked to include detailed information...So i'm sort of confused...I;ve contacted the Accrediation company, so hoping that will clear up what their asking

Although the information below is in context of Quality Management Systems, the same principle applies to OHSAS 18001.

A matter of scope-The IRCA Auditing Practices Group presents its updated guidance on understanding the difference in scope of ISO 9001, quality management systems and certification

So can the scope of the 14001 and 18001, simply be the same as the scope of 9001...As I've asked several friends regarding the scope of their companies, and they are the same for each

"The same as it is for 9001" was my answer to the question and the certifying body seemed happy with that.

Firstly, what is the reason why you are doing the scope. Is it for costing's or has this been done and its for the accreditation itself?

You scope should not be accepted as it reads. You need to state what are the sites (locations) how many employees at each site, what is the nature of your business, the risks etc.....

Some organisation only get 18001 for part of their business, i.e. locations or specific areas, so this is the reason why the scope has to be accurate.
