You never know where you can learn something from. http://www.foxnews.com/e...ally-steve-harvey-fault/The Miss Universe debacle for example!? What Well it seems to me an excellent example of poor procedures The phrase on the card was ‘The first runner up’ It seems to me that this is a classic example of poor planning the guy reading it out needs to be helped here with a clearer message so he does not risk getting it wrong. In this case sever embarrassment (plus lots of publicity). But not that dangerous, it’s made me re-read some of the things I write. I try even harder to wait at least a day before sending important stuff out. As witnessed regularly on this site it’s so easy to miss-read or miss-interpret the written word. Just shows it’s not as easy to write something down as you’d like to think. It did raise a smile though:-) Merry Christmas. Happy New Year

Strange but when I saw the event I thought how poor the wording was 'first runner up' how many runner-ups are there?!
Indeed a poignant lesson of ensuring instructions are written clearly - at least no one was injured with this one, well, no physical injury. I'm sure the psychological damage will be there for life...for the compere!

The layout of the card probably didnt help either, reading down the list on the left, it is pretty easy to miss the additional information to the right - very poor by whoever designed the card. If nothing else, it was big publicity for the event (must admit I had no idea these "beauty pageants" were still going on)

Graham, I am slightly dyslexic, have been all my life but only found out 5 years ago.
In this age of predictive text and fat fingers/small keypads I really have issues with my writing, having to re-re-reread everything before I hit the fire button, and then get it wrong on occasions.
I proof read everything I write and also read every single word on a page of writing that I receive.
Emails are so funny, mine as well but once its gone its too late, I just hope the people receiving mine are scanners and not readers. Haha
You may see something I have missed here, deapite my proof reading I don't see everything.
There are thousands of ppl like me who do not know they have the same issue, so give us all a break, please.
Message to the forum organisers now - the security image letters are a real problem for people like me, I understand the need for security but sometimes it takes me a dozen times before I get it right.
Merry Christmas to all.

I just admit to be a bad speller but that predictive texting is bad, my mates think I invented the Enigma code when they receive some of my message because they have to try and figure out what letter is close so they can decipher.

This could easily have been solved.
In such cases I would recommend the winner and the real winner mud wrestle for the crown.
Winner takes all.

Winner takes all. There's always one person who lower the tone - and it's often you Martin!!!! I am not disagreeing with your solution though and I am happy to assist as deputy if you are going to put a bid in to organise the 2016 show!! :)
