My company is looking to move various pieces of equipment from one site to another. The equipment is of varying age and CE marking status (some of it predates the requirement for CE marking).
I need to check the requirements out thoroughly but I was wondering if anyone could save me some time and advise on the need to upgrade the equipment when moving between locations? I know that any lifting equipment has to be retested when moved to a new location but are there any requirements on, for example, upgrading the internal wiring to 17th edition. Are there any improvement or retest requirements that I should be aware of?

PUWER compliance primarily, a full and proper PUWER assessment of the equipment once installed, and any actions that come from this.
If the machinery pre-dates CE then so be it, that's not an issue.
Whatever you do NEVER try to apply BS7671 (as you refer to it the 17th edition) to machinery wiring.
BS7671 Reg. 110.2(xi) applies, exclusions from scope.
It ONLY applies to the fixed wiring within the property.

Great, thanks Paul. So the internal wiring can be left as is (assuming it doesnt present any additional risk in itself)?

Yes, as long as the equipment meets the requirements of PUWER98, if it doesn't then you would need to look at updating the control systems, then you are into the realms of EN 60204, EN 62061 & EN 13849 etc.

Okay, thanks for the help.
Can you (or anyone else) think of anything else I need to consider? I'm thinking principally retest and upgrade requirements on movement.
A couple I've just thought of are review of DSEAR assessment if moving to an area that contains potentially explosive atmospheres.
Review/reassessment of noise if the equipment can generate noise levels that may cause the area to reach first or second action levels.

If you do a proper full structured assessment for compliance against PUWER98 then you will catch most things.
DSEAR is something specific, that you can only think about if you have that environment.
You would need to ensure that the new building infrastructure is capable of supporting the new equipment, but that's more an engineering function than H&S.
