Hi

Does anyone have any guidance with regard to the design, layout and safety aspects of domestic science kitchens in Schools.

We have a domestic science kitchen which is quite industrial and unsure if it will be suitable for younger pupils.

Thanks

Have a look at DoE document BB81. It covers Design Technology, including Food Tech. I think that should give you what you are looking for.

I should also have said have a look at CLEAPSS documents, especially DL79 - auditing H&S in secondary school D&T Dept. There is a section on H&S in Food Tech areas. I think you will also find BB81 (referred to in earlier post) on CLEAPSS website. Hope this helps.

Not wishing to overload you with guidance etc, if you have access to British Standards you could have a look at BS4163:2014, the Code of Practice for D&T in schools/education premises. There is a section on food etc.
