Hi guys,
I am considering enrolling on the e-learning NEBOSH Diploma with RRC. Was just looking for some general advice beforehand from those of you who have done it (I much prefer the idea of the Diploma as opposed to NVQ)
I am in a full time H&S role in the construction industry and have no desire to leave my job in the near future. I will be self funded so am just wondering will it significantly advance my career?
I guess I'm just looking some reassurance before I take the plunge and commit to a couple of years of intense study!
Any advice greatly appreciated!

The H&S job market is flooded with people.
So while you might not be looking to change jobs at the moment, in the event that you do ever look for another job - it would be an easy filtering process for your potential next employer to turn you down on the grounds that you don't have the Diploma.
Whether the IOSH Diploma is the best way to gain further h&s qualifications is another matter. There are other training courses/training providers that are (in my opinion) cheaper and provide better training.

Hi Magee There's been many a debate on these forums regarding NVQ 5 or NEBOSH Dip. For what it's worth this is my opinion. First of all both the NVQ5 and the NEBOSH Dip will get you Grad-IOSH status. In your comments you stated that you are already in a H&S role so both routes are available to you. It could be down to a matter of your learning style -if you are good at exams the NEBOSH route may be for you - if you are actively involved in a H&S role the gathering of work related evidence to fulfill the criteria of each module in the NVQ might suit your learning style. But the bottom line is this ; the vast majority of H&S job roles specify NEBOSH Dip as against NVQ 5 as a requirement. So you pays your money and takes your choose.
Good luck

I'm currently with RRC doing the diploma and so far it has been good. The materials are well laid out and easy to follow, and the tutors know their stuff. I chose the diploma because having studied a degree and also undertaken nvq's in the past, i preferred the diploma way of doing things. Don't get me wrong its hard work, and i miss alot of the classroom element, but as previously mentioned, you are the one self funding, so its what is best for you :-)

Or an alternative is the NCRQ Diploma. This new qualification is developed by employers themselves, and also gets you Grad-IOSH status. It is assessed by assignments rather than examsn, and focuses on the skills that you skills that you actually use in the workplace. Everyone I have spoken to on the course agrees it is miles better than NEBOSH where you need to answer exams questions in a very specific way. It's also much cheaper, and you can work at your own pace. Definitely worth a look at. I was sceptical at first, but spoke to a number of safety recruiters who agreed it would be a better choice than NEBOSH and is recognised by employers. www.ncrq.org.uk

Thanks for the replies guys.
I had heard about the NCRQ but didn't give it much consideration. I had another good look into it last night after Peters advice and it really looks like an excellent qualification, much more suited to the real world.
I have decided to go down this route and hopefully do the NEBOSH sometime in the future.
Thanks again for the replies.
