Hi again all,

I am looking to compile some guidance and risk assessments for overseas working, the countries covered could be considered to be of a high risk nature.

Aside from contacting specific embassys and the home office, do you guys have an further ideas or advice on assessing/managing these risk as best as possible.

Regards
Russ

Hi Russ

I'd suggest contacting both your insurance company and insurance broker as they will be able to provide relevant information for you.

Ours currently provide weekly/daily email alerts on the countries that we have requested as we send teams to 'safe' places like Poland, France and US, but also more interesting ones like Angola and China.

You can also get very good, free training and advice from the local Counter Terrorism Security Advisor within your local Police - I'd certainly recommend this too.

Lastly, the Home Office provide good stuff too... Try these links:-

Hope that this helps

Hi Russ, in order to risk assess sites that our people go to I have been there so that I have seen what they see, where they stay, how they get there etc etc. This has included 3 trips to China last year as well as Bilbao. It looks like a trip to Germany and back to China are on the horizon.

stuie,
That's just an excuse for a free holiday! ;)

However, I agree, it's part of my theory of you shouldn't be commenting or advising if you can't do the job as it were.
In this case, you can't advise if you haven't been there.
I like it.
Any room in your suitcase?... ;)

I just dont know what you mean Paul :-) :-) - Great Wall is just that and Hangzhou Bay Bridge was amazing!!

How can I advise people if I don't know what they are facing - I guess we have seen the videos and images of what China can be like and what can go wrong; and trust me some of the places are really that bad. However not all of them are - the last place I visited was all certified up - OSHAS 18001, ISO 14001 and 9001, as well as TS 16949 - externally audited by a German company; there were some issues still but in general the workplace was well managed. So in order to give good advice I NEED to visit and then go back on odd occasions to re-audit and help with improvement plans etc as I do believe that they generally do want to improve.
Well thats my story and I am sticking to it.
No sorry Paul I need my case space - the two cities that I went to last time; one was 25 deg C when we left and the other -16 deg C when we landed four hours later - try packing a case to cope with that!!
