Hi all, Been reading some IOSH guidance on staff abroad and noticed this Personal medical kits Depending on the destination, you may need to provide: a basic first aid kit isotonic drinks or tablets water purification tablets or filters sun protection diarrhoea treatmen insect repellent - a mosquito net - anti-malaria drugs - antihistamine tablets or cream. If hospital standards are low, you may also need to provide a sterile medical equipment pack containing: - hypodermic syringes - dressings - sutures - blood plasma - single-use thermometers does anyone have an example of when either of these examples would be a requirement? Thanks

Hi Russ, If you have people who may be posted overseas you should start with the Foreign & Commonwealth Office website. They have country specific information which includes the state of healthcare facilities and has links to sites which will give specific guidance on vaccinations and essential medicines. Do bear in mind that in many countries you may be able to get good healthcare in the capital or major cities, but in rural areas there may be nothing, and transport may be rudimentary. We post people to some of the poorest and most troubled places on earth. When our people go to such places (like war-torn areas of South Sudan) they will need everything on the lists you have quoted. We also have medevac insurance, and use specialist travel risk service providers. If your people are going to seriously risky places you might want to consider this as an option. Our current supplier is a company called Drum Cussac, but other suppliers exist, John
