We currently check the driving licenses of our volunteer and other minibus drivers. For UK license holders we can check penalty point history via the DVLA website/database. Does any one know how a penalty point check can be made of a driving license holder from a non-UK, EU country? Is it sufficient to get the license holder to self declare their driving history? Or is there such thing as an EU database (I think I know the answer to that one)? Thanks in advance.

If everything fails and nobody else can help, try phoning your local Police, ask to speak to a Traffic Department officer, as they probably have to do it on a regular basis, especially around the ports.

I will mirror John Murray - too often I have been the bad cop reminding my employer and recent EU recruitments of the UK driving legislation regarding not only their licence but their domestically purchased vehicle on UK roads.

In response to John Murray's comment regarding length of time spent in UK, my understanding is that someone from a EU country can drive without having to get a UK license until they are 70 yrs of age or have lived in GB for three years, whichever is the longer. This compounds the problem in checking the penalty points. Please correct me if I am wrong.
