Hi, I was just wondering if anyone out there has a standard H&S question that their organisation uses at interview to try and ensure that any new recruits are aware of the H&S risks of their particular role???
Thanks

Q Interviewer 'Tell me Mr/Mrs/Ms Bloggs what do you think are the main health and safety issues are in the job you might be employed to do?'
A.....
It is of course the employers duty to inform employees of the significant h&s risks of the job.

I doubt there is a single question to cover anyones' role.
Interesting concept nonetheless..."Tell me what H&S Legislation protects you at work"? - "Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974" - "You've got the job".

It is of course the employers duty to inform employees of the significant h&s risks of the job. Brilliant, I wonder how that would go down? :-).. Another could be: What mistakes have you made in your career and what have you learnt from them? Wrong answer is 'None'!

Don't ask a specific H&S question. Use a scenario to test the technical and professional knowledge and competence and within that scenario the relevant H&S issues can be teased out.

Why obfuscate matters? Why not inform them of the main hazards in the application information (job role, job profile etc.).? The candidate will then be enabled to answer to the specifics of the role, a much more rewarding process for all concerned.

Thanks Work with HR to include the key H&S responsibilities in the 'role profiles' of the position. Based on this you are able to ask relevant H&S questions that are specific to the position. This also helps with grading, appraisal, identifying skills gaps, etc.
