Hi, I am new to this forum. I work as a Safety Officer in an airport handling VVIP flights. I have been asked by one of the executives to do an audit of the GSE departnent's training. For the life of me, I couldn't find what standards to compare their training against so I am really hoping for some direction here. they also have Forklift trucks so anyone here could tell me what constitutes an acceptable standard of training for FLT operators too?

Safety officer, the HSE website has web pages on lifting equipment and necessary training. You need to know about LOLER. Do you know what training the fork truck drivers have had? Do you know if the trucks have had a recent thorough examination? And can I ask what training you have had, so we can advise.

GSE means Ground Service Equipment. These consists of aircrqft support equipments such as step vehicles, electric tugs, high-loader (scissors lift) for container loading, belt loader, dolly carts etc. Anyone has any idea about what are the international standards regarding training for theae GSE eqn? Thanks for the FLT feedback. I'm confident on that now. I just don't want to be caught off guard when asked about what standards am i using. The thing is with aviation we have many two regulations to comply with, the airport authority and the workplace hs order. Gets confusing at times.

Are you in UK? If so all that lifting equipment needs regular examination by another company engineer, and if operatives are lifted with the equipment then the testing is twice a year. If your company has business insurance then the insurance company will arrange the examinations of the equipment.

In UK also, there is an agreed MOU between the Health & Safety Executive and the Civil Aviation Authority. If an operation is on the Airside, such as Aircraft turnaround there are CAA CAPs etc Refer to as comparators:- Aircraft turnround http://www.hse.gov.uk/ai...rt/topics/turnaround.htm CAP 642-Airside Safety Management http://publicapps.caa.co.uk/docs/33/CAP642.PDF Air Transport Topics http://www.hse.gov.uk/ai...ansport/topics/index.htm MoU http://www.hse.gov.uk/airtransport/hse-and-caa.htm

wow thanks! All my questions answered. I' m based in Brunei and we've just gotten serious with the OSH few years ago. Now i know what standards to compare against, does anyone know how to actually perform an audit? a template would be nice. I know the theory but not never been through the actual process. thanks everyone for your patience in answering my easily answered question. I humbly appreciate them.

You got serious on H&S a few years ago, but just asking these questions after all those years?? :o) Your audit needs to be specific to YOUR workplace and the system of work and safety that YOU adopt. So all the things you learn from the links above, your audit should have a question for each thing you should do. Hope we have been helpful Hafiz, good luck.
