Hi guys,

If you were asked "if suitable fire plans were available and up to date" would you take that to mean a schematic of the premises, clearly labelling exits, fixed fire fighting equipment, portable fire fighting equipment, smoke vents etc?

Cheers

No. I'd interpret that to be about more than a drawing and to include warning, exit/evacuation, marshals duties, automatic systems in working order etc etc.

Of course it depends on who is asking and why.

The question to be asked.

Is it a fire plan of the building or is it a fire evacuation plan, or is it a fire implementation plan, or a fire prevention plan.....

If you fail to plan you plan to fail.

You can look at this any way you like but you need to have a plan of action in case of fore.

Depending on the size of your premises, number of employees, your budget etc.

The plan can be written instructions on a single page and posted on the wall near to the fire exits, or it can be comprehensively written into a large document, and stored in a cupboard. You can have a diagramme showing the salient points, exits, extinguishers, fire doors etc. whatever your fire risk assessment decides you should have.

Please do not make it something too difficult fo people to read and understand and make sure it is communicated to everyone.
