Can somebody please define what 'comfort wearing' a mask means?
Why would you want to put a mask on if it was not for hazard protection, they are not the most 'comfortable' things to wear?

In a fire service setting, We use it to mean wearing of Breathing Apparatus when we are working outside where the effects of working in smoke are not particularly harmful but not very pleasant to work in all the same. Hope that makes sense.

In a broader sense, the practice may be self-defeating. 'Comfort' wearers may not wear them properly (as you say, not the most comfortable things in the world) supervision may be poor or non-existent and that poor compliance and practice may translate into hazardous situations where correct use of RPE is imperative.

MMM when I first read this I thought you were referring to people who perceive they need to wear RPE even though they have been told they don't need to. Ie it gives them comfort to wear it. I could guess this may mean that they do not trust what the company is telling them. Alternatively there has been a change and they previously had to use them, now told not necessary and they are sceptical.
So like a comfort blanket, does nothing practical other than making person feel better.
Of course I could easily be wrong.

I've had people who insist on wearing mask to cover up an unpleasant smell, which poses no risk to health. Their chose I suppose.
