Hi All I've recently started a new job and I'm facing a new problem (for me). Around 50% of the workforce is agency and around 20% of these agency staff turnover regularly (1-2 weeks). So, every few weeks we have many fresh faces who have no knowledge of the company, previous TBT's, issues etc. We provide them with induction, training, SSOW and start them on basic tasks to deal with this, but continuously make the same mistakes. Does any one have any tips on dealing with a high turnover of staff - how do you get the basic safety messages across continuously? Obviously, induction and supervision are key! we have also considered using TV screens scrolling safety messages (not convinced this will have much impact) Does anyone out there have a novelty, unusual and effective ways of controlling such an issue?

certainly a challenge, although not the same I work on high profile construction projects, again turn over of staff is common through different phases. I would suggest the easiest way is to have a very robust induction. repeating TBT's will do very little, set your stall out with an induction and you won't go far wrong.

Hi I've had this issue in the past (Distribution Warehouse at Christmas time) and have done much the same as you. I created a mini site rules booklet which the Managers would go through with the Agency Workers (who also get a copy) as an Induction and then core SSOW depending on what the guys are doing. We would also buddy them up for a day or two with a full time worker to learn the ropes. They also attended pre-shift briefings with the rest of the staff. It is a hard one to ensure they get the right information and within the timescales and costs. The only other option that I know one company did was the Agency had to bring the people in before they start work for a few days induction payed for by the Agency.
