Are there any folk on here well versed in lighting? if so, can I enlist a bit of assistance, as I am far from an expert in this field.

Firstly would you agree with the recommendations stated here:
http://mountlighting.co....omended-lighting-levels/

Secondly if you take a corridors or stairwells for example, if the reading reaches the required level at certain points but falls below at others, what is your take on it.
For example the bottom of a stair well is below the required reading but at various other points on the stair case or stair well, the reading fluctuates between positive and negative readings. are you required to act. Do we have to install more lighting essentially?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Russ

HSG38 gives you the main body of guidance although some of it refers to CIBSE guidance.

There is access on the URL below

Russ, if you have fluctuating levels of lighting in a given area, then I would suggest that some form of action should be taken to remedy the situation.

You have already been given excellent advice where to go for further information re lighting levels, but as a starting point I would always advise that any luminaires should first be cleaned; old bulbs replaced & then carry out further lighting level tests before you embark on what may be an expensive solution.

I have had this done at some of my previous sites & the improvements were truly amazing!

The HSE Guidance is useful as a starter, but dated ( 1997 edition !).

CIBSE's Society of Light and lighting publications are Industry Standards.

It is best to refer to HSE Guidance directly from the HSE Website
