HI All, I wanted to get some general advice and opinions. I created and own a phone app called global safety and it allows Everyone involved in any aspects of health, safety and environment to question each other around the world etc, a second function allows you to create a safety alert and send globally at the push of a button. Now the App has never really taken off and thinking about it, I think the questioning functioning was a little ambitious. So my question is, I can change the format easily enough and remove the question function and simply have the app as a safety alerts app only, people could download your safety alert around the world in the format of a TBT? do you think this would be more successful / a useful tool? Safety alerts based on real incidents

Hi Chris, interesting concept. I can't help you with the technical aspect of your question, but with regards to safety alerts I will say this, when I was in industry I would receive alerts from every man and his dog. The problem was many of the issues were low to medium incidents which did not warrant in my opinion being raised as an alert and definitely not a TBT. Second point, TBTs are seen as the Philosopher's stone, where they are not really necessary or some other form of initiative or intervention is required. However they are cheap and easy to deliver and become ubiquitous including the misuse as an action following a serious accident investigation.

Thanks RayRapp, I see your point. Maybe even if not used as a TBT it would maybe help SHE people all over the world understand what can can wrong, how it went wrong and how to prevent similar incidents within their own work place.

Not sure I'm getting this, but it sounds like the users sign up and if something happens where they work they create an alert which goes out to everyone else who has signed up. In turn they also get an alert if something happens to someone else. If this is correct the major set back I see is that people don't like to "air their dirty laundry in public". They will all be happy to receive, but no one contribute. Just MHO

No disrespect, but what credibility would you ascribe to a Safety Alert received via an App from any old Joe Bloggs? Higher risk industry tends to already have well-established web-based alert processes (rail, health, medicine, oil and gas, transport, construction products, etc.). Same applies to consumer products. Nice idea, but I think it's covered.

Any joe bloggs is still a SHE professional, I wouldn't disregard and potential information that could prevent an accident. I can see some advantages of being able to share information world wide. I certainly appreciate all your feedback.

In an attempt to be constructive I'll let you know that I wouldn't use it. I'm not criticising it but I have enough irrelevant data sent to me already and I'd only be interested in my own industry (retail) which is notoriously secret with all it's data so I doubt any information would be published by anyone else. Good luck anyway, wish I had those sort of skills and enough time to use them.
