Can anyone clarify the circumstances when extension ladders can be used as access for scaffolding please?

I vaguely remember my NEBOSH instructor telling us that you should only use single section ladders but I can't find anything to back that up and I've certainly seen extension ladders used to access scaffolding from ground to first rise.

Have a look at the link below, might help provide some answers for you.

Personally I have never seen extension ladders used on scaffolds, they have all been single section ladders, secured and at least 3 rungs passed the step off point.

Also see if there is anything on the NASC website at all.

Thank you for your reply. To clarify my OP; I have seen extension ladders used to access the scaffold from the ground but I have only ever seen single section ladders within scaffold (as in from rise to rise). I am assuming that is the difference. I will have a look on NASC and see what I can find.

Emma

Have never seen extension ladders used from the ground level only single section ladders, how high is the first level to warrant using an extension ladder?
