We have some containers of PCP (algaecide) which need disposing of. These used to be used in radiology for processing but are now defunct. Can anyone offer any advice how to dispose of these appropriately? The MSDS states Dispose of in accordance with local authority waste disposal. What does that even mean? SBH

It simply means that they dictate how this should be disposed off and you have to adhere with their guidelines. Contact your local authority, many years ago, I found some chemical drums in a basement and didnt know what to do with them but definitely wanted shot of them. I called the local councils waste team and they picked them up for me.

I suggest contacting a local waste management company, as they will consider the hierarchy of disposal or recycling route. Whether you use the council or local contractor, there will be a charge, and usually waste management companies tend to be more competitive. Make sure whoever you use, you are provided with the correct waste documentation, and check the contractor is licenced to carrier the waste

Is this the same PCP that had (has?) a certain reputation in the wacky backy stakes? Worth a call to the original suppliers if they are still around and if it's an algicide, it's not one for the drain without checking in detail first. There are some common phrases in MSDS as drafted by US lawyers about disposal per local ordinances and it sounds like you have one of them. Vapid and useless - no, I mean the wording not the author. Or both perhaps...? Worth a hunt for an up to date European version.

https://www.gov.uk/gover...7976/HTM_07-01_Final.pdf not an expert but if this waste is related to a healthcare operation then perhaps you can find some useful guidance in the HTM (healthcare technical memo)
