Has anyone used the West Fargo equipment to train in the safe use of fire extinguishers. Only want to know if it was any good. Only looking for opinions if you have used it! http://bullex.com/news/w...e-extinguisher-training/

I have used it, but only during a demonstration at an exhibition. I should declare my position that I am not overly impressed by any fire simulator, including LPG rigs, as I feel they do not give a realistic experience for the trainee. There's no smoke produced and no opportunity to show the development of smoke and steam when the extinguisher is applied - a significant hazard when it come to maintaining a clear means of escape It maybe relevant in certain high risk areas, but these bits of kit are more 'marketing' that 'training' tools, in that the customer can be convinced he is getting a better deal than just a presentation or show-and-tell session. Let's be frank here. There's no rocket science when it comes to using an extinguisher. In essence it's just a big aerosol can! Even selecting the wrong extinguisher (with the exception of water onto liquid fires) is not as problematic as some think The skill is assessing when not to use the appliance, and if one decides to have a go, how to do so safely. I am not sure how much value any simulator - even those with VR headset - brings to the party The advantage of Bullex is that it can be used inside, so useful for city centre/land locked locations - and trust me - its going to be much easier for the trainer to transport it. The disadvantages, in addition to those for gas rigs, is that the candidate doesn't get to play with real fire extinguishers. Perhaps those bought up on Playstations and similar entertainment systems will enjoy the experience, and I know simulators are popular so I expect to be shot down for my views - but for a premises with low and ordinary fire risks, I think its all smoke and mirrors (excuse the pun)!
