Hi All, I'm after some guidance regarding the use of pallets that have been fumigated using Methyl Bromide. These pallets have come into the UK from India due to importing of stone. I have found guidance on HSG251 regarding Fumigation. Do any members have guidance on controls around safe handling, use and disposal of the pallets that have been fumigated with Methyl Bromide? From what I can gather from reading HSG251 and also reading "Methyl Bromide General Information" from the Health Protection Agency the exposure limits will be low as there is no prolonged exposure and low contentrated. Any advise would be welcomed as I would look going forward to import goods upon pallets which have been heat treated.

Just because they have been fumigated does not mean that they will necessarily be contaminated with Methyl Bromide. It will probably have evaporated off. I would consider getting them tested ie get a sample of wood taken and sent away to a suitable lab for analysis. There may not be a problem.
