Hi colleagues

I am posting on here to ask if there is an expert with any experience in Italian fire alarm standards?
My client would like to bring a system over from the UK and install it in his commercial premises here.

The paperwork he has for this system is pretty much all in Italian and makes reference to a number of EC standards. I have already tried asking for a declaration of conformity for other items but that got lost in translation.

Any ideas please people?
Thanks in advance

When the alarm goes off does it sound like the chimes from an ice cream van......

Sorry couldn't resist.

Look on the Europa web site under CE marking and construction products - if the EN numbers match it is fit for use in the UK but be careful to verify the year and any revision.

Only if the numbers on the manufacturers certificate of Conformity match is it fit for cross border trading ( note some may also reference Electro Magnetic Compatability and the Low Voltage Directive)

Italy is [quite rightly] world renowned for its love of Bureaucracy and paperwork [Its the only EU country I know where a non-resident cannot buy a car - even though the EU says you can]

The answer to your question is;-

1. He can buy a UK system and fit it to his Italian premises. [This is as far as an Italian would go in the process]

2. If he wants the installation officially approved' [for insurance etc] every single document about the system will need to be provided as a certified translation into Italian. [Possibly/probably won't be accepted anyway].

3. He could have major problems getting an Italian Installer to fit it, if he requires that the installation is 'certified' by the Installer.

4. If its not fitted and certified by a registered Italian installer, getting any sort of Italian acceptance of the system will be nigh on impossible.

Having owned a place in Italy for the last 15 years or so - I would strongly recommend you use a local system, unless you have several years to waste trying to get it approved.

Good Luck - you'll need it

Thanks Alan,

Just to clarify my Italian client would like to install an Italian fire alarm system into his UK London ladies retail clothing premises. There are several European standards for this type of equipment and he has sent me a number of data sheets for the proposed system.

I don't really have the time to check every single EU standard to clarify if this Italian system is suitable and sufficient for the UK equivalent.

It is ironic that I'm asking this question after last weeks vote (I was for staying in by the way).
I have also asked the EU equivalent body here in the UK and waiting for an answer.

Lets try to keep this a politics free thread please.

Thanks again
