All I am looking at if there is new guidence on Defibrillators, or is the case that there is no legal requirement to have them in the workplace or is it based on your 'risk assessment'.
Can I just add I am not interested in the moral argument just the legal stand point.
We deal with residential establishments for the young and old just to give some background.

No legal requirement. Based on risk assessment and/or caring.

As Kate says, there is no legal requirement for defibs, however it is best practice to have 1 available

No legal basis change...there is a little push for schools. Unfortunately the only solid information is from US studies.
Down to your risk assessment. I base mine on population risk, incident history and ambulance (ALS) response time..
You probably already have this but the Resus Org guidance is below. It may be better for you to look for PAD defibs in your area rather than getting your own..?

From 2005 Danish school children were taught BLS and CPR;
Out of hospital cardiac arrest survival tripled in the next 6 years!
Could be a coincidence, probably due to the training though, and the availability of AED's in the country.
If you are in cardiac arrest, there is a tiny tiny chance that CPR alone will reanimate you.
The only thing that massively improves your chances is an AED.
CPR should be seen as a holding pattern until the arrival of an AED.

we have put seven PADs in around our local area. We also request that all companies operating sites volunteer to have their put on the register. Costain as an example.
