Hi All, I am looking to promote near miss reporting within the business (Demolition contractor) and wanted some views as to how you would or what you have done with regards to this subject. I have recently drafted a tool box talk on the importance of reporting and had some posters made to display within welfare cabins but need a little more than this. I am looking at the training route or some form of to capture a bigger audience and gain some interaction, however, need some input on what subjects to cover in putting this to cover.

Is there resistance to near miss reporting and where does it originate? Is it with front line staff or with their managers? If that is the case you need to target them-the managers rather than just going for the front line people

I know where your coming from, the route of the blame culture i.e. if operatives report, do they fear being blamed for not following procedure. I'm trying to encourage a comfortable atmosphere to everyone that near misses should be reported. However, I'm not sure if its so much managers resisting, it could be more of level of interpretation from the guys.

There are lots of reasons people may not report near misses. As well as 'I'll be blamed', there's 'It's too difficult', 'There's no point because nothing ever gets done', 'I'll be laughed at.' You need to find out what the trouble is to be able to fix it.
