Hi Has anyone seen any guidance relating to open plan desks positioned so that the operator has their back to a pedestrian route. I find it very distracting but not sure if it is just my preference or if there is any specific data anywhere

Not seen any legislation but there are human factor considerations as you say with regard to distraction and feeling unconfortable. There may be security considerations for visible computer screens and privacy. Is the walkway wide enough to accommodate those working at the desks if they move out?

I suspect that there will be sufficient distance in accordance with standard walkways but opposite the desks on the other side of the walk way are meeting rooms and single offices. The engineer? who designed the layout was quite defensive and asked for me to supply guidance for my 'valid' comments, I am sure there is some guidance but can I find it when I need it!

Since you are being asked to 'justify' your comments, it's worth consulting any edition of the excellent guide, 'Bodyspace' by Stephen Pheasant who discusses the variety of issues arising (and also presents BSI anthropometric data on males and females which could also be used if you need to provide relevant data).
