Hi guys, has anyone done this training and is it as good as advertised? 3-day lead investigator course costs over 2k and I'm planning to do this using transition funding available for those who have been made redundant due to downturn in o&g industry.

That is a lotta dosh as an investment. 3 days - £2k!! Plus subsistence I presume. Top-set is not a badge I have ever sought, or felt was needed - but I have not worked in high risk industries with accident investigation / analysis being a frequent necessity. However, I believe most SPs would benefit from additional investigation / analysis training, particularly in relation to the legal consequences from the shifting sands of enforcement. Not sure if, or how well, the K-T covers this aspect. With £2k to spend on enhancing CV with additional training for future jobs, I would concentrate more on management, business and / or teaching skills. You could probably get a decent accident post-action training course which would improve confidence in 'doing the right thing' in the event of a serious situation for (well) under half the cost above - shop and ask around. I learnt effective analysis techniques from taught theory on Diploma, reading books and websites on the subject, and then practicing on past cases. I also attend any seminar, IOSH event etc I can, with a legal or coroner presentation - and continue to learn. The analysis part is for the organisation, but the other critical element is to know how best to keep people out of court / jail sfairp, or at least formulate the best defensive tactics.

That sounds a good mixture - if you are looking for construction work. If the world outside construction appeals more, consider Environmental NEBOSH instead of the construction cert. Look at job ads to see what is being asked for. Personally wouldn't bother with ISO auditing, but auditing skills are expected, so if it all works out for you & the funding - go for it.

I also have done the 3 day Topset course, and would recommend it to anyone who is required to post incident investigation as the tools are very helpful.
