Can someone guide me towards reference material that defines the % content of Chromate or Cadmium in coating bulk sample analysis, which can be used as an assessment trigger for the requirement of additional control measures. For lead I am aware of the 1% content figure, but unable to find anything similar for Chromate or Cadmium.

Control of lead at work regs limits airborne exposure to 0.1 - .15 mg/m3

Not sure where your 1% comes from?

Try to get a hold of EH 40 for limits for cadmium etc.

Remember duty to reduce exposure as low as is reasonably practicable.

There is an old HSE Information sheet on the HSE website, Cromate Primer Paints:-

Exposure to cadmium in silver soldering or brazing

Cadmium & compounds thereof 0.025 mg/m3 LTEL 8hr - EH40

"Chromates" are not listed but the trivalent Cr(III) is 0.5 mg/m3 LTEL whilst the hexavalent Cr(VI) is 0.05 mg/m3 LTE

Check both the ECHA website - https://echa.europa.eu/e...briefprofile/100.028.320

Or IFA GESTIS Database - http://www.dguv.de/ifa/gestis/gestis-internationale-grenzwerte-fuer-chemische-substanzen-limit-values-for-chemical-agents/index-2.jsp

The latter has international workplace limits (CAS No search) and a DNEL (Derived No Effect Limit) database
