hi
we are in the process of evaluting or plant safety audit it has been running 10 years and i believe it now adds no value to the organisation. We are a manufacturing site that has the plant broken down into sub areas to allow full coverage i would be keen to hear how other organisations are currently utilising employees and how the information is captured and reported.
I would like as many of our employees to be invloved for the new system to take no longer than 30 mins to complete and be able to report real time on performance.

You are streteching the meaning of the word 'involvement' quite a lot by limiting it to 30 mintues. What would motivate any thinking employee or manager to be 'involved' for 30 minutes occasionally? Simpler to simply tell them to do what you want for 30 minutes and don't confuse it with 'involvement'.

My inspection programme is based on a weekly 30 minute inspection of a process area rotating through them all. To each one I invite a senior manager and two members of the H&S committee as well as the area supervisor. The manager and the supervisor often like to invite members of their team as well. There's a very short checklist of things to look for but mainly it is based on asking the supervisor what has improved recently / what he is proud of (this brings in a positive feeling) and everyone else bringing a fresh pair of eyes to what looks either good or bad. Then I circulate a one-page report pointing out any good practices to share and giving praise where it is due as well as listing actions agreed (which are then followed up to check they are done). It seems to work quite well. Keeping it short keeps it happier!

'Participation' is probably a more accurate term than 'involvement' but I see that as hair-splitting.
