Hi, sorry if this has been asked for. I couldn't find anything when searching.
Our company has two fire marshalls, they want to have one of them as a first aider. I remember hearing/reading somewhere that this was a conflict of interest. Is this just hearsay or is it recorded somewhere. I've not been able to find anything definitive.
Many thanks,
M

Hi Marcus, never heard of this type of scenario as being a conflcit of interest. Indeed I cannot think of any situation where there would be a conflict - two different roles, for two different purposes.

The conflict would appear to be in an emergency scenario i.e. what does that person do if they need to help clear the building or preserve life if someone needs first aid.
As far as I am aware there is nothing in place to say you can't have one person do both, I guess it goes back to your arrangements and risk assessments.

I have never heard of this either. I am both a first aider and a fire marshall at my place of work

I am both in my workplace
I would think that the chances of needing to carry out both roles at once are very, very small, so cannot see a conflict of interest

I concur with the other posts - we have personnel trained in both. We also have placed staff with Fire & Rescue personnel on FPOS training courses (advanced first aid).
