Health and safety consultant on a Retainer

Some of you may be working on a Retainer basis, which I would like to know more about. Firstly how does a Retainer work and secondly what fees are suggested as reasonable. Many thanks.

I can only give a personal perspective on this as others may differ in their approach. All of my clients are now on retainers, with most on 2 year contracts & the decision to do so was at their request. The small print depends on the client's business, I.e. my largest one operates over 7 days from 0600 to 2000, so I have to tailor the service to meet their needs. The retainers are mutually agreed, usually a set number of days with additional fees if these are exceeded. As to the fees;well that depends on the client & the work involved. Ho Ho Ho I had a great laugh at that comment. You are of course mentioning the great Santa Clause CMIOSH who runs a seasonal business providing gifts to children of all ages, from the day they are born, as in my first daughter's case, born at 9.10 am Christmas Day, her first present was from Santa who wore green boots and looked strangely like a hospital doctor. Other end of the scale are people into their hundred plus years of age. Santa CMIOSH drives a sleigh pulled by reindeers and if he gets a breakdown he rides a reindeer back to his place at the North Pole to pick up replacement sleigh and carry on hie journey around the would. He has employees of course, Elves who gave the name to 'elf'n safety' and we all appreciate him for that. Merry Christmas everyone.
