Hello everyone,
I after some advice from my piers regarding VNA. I do not have a great deal of experience of VNA and our company has just brought them onto a new site. My main worries are when it comes to escaping from a VNA at height. Our VNA's have a mechanical winch to bring them down if they are stuck at height however this cannot be used if the forks are in the racking. STILL the manufacturer also have a harness and abseil system for the drivers to abseil down at height if they become stuck, another worry for me is what happens if the driver has a funny turn eg heart attack and is unable to abseil down.
I am after advice on what systems you used elsewhere.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Perhaps we should have an "Agh Jargon!" button-you should not assume that everybody understands what you might be taking about.

Hi Matty,
We use a VNA at our depot. If the forks are engaged & the VNA fails then the operative is expected to abseil out of the truck in an emergency (i.e fire).
The operatives are trained by a company called spanset, they can also supply the harness etc. Its important to ensure the abseil equipment is inspected as per LOLER.
The operatives do a practice abseil every 6 months internally.
The scenario of a having a heart attack while the forks are engaged must be low? Our operators must pass a medical every 3 years & notify us of any health issues. Regualar maintenance of teh VNA will also mitigate an issue while forks are engaged.
Hope that helps, PM me if you would like more help. Our biggest issue is if the VNA breaks down and we cant access high level stock.
