Hi all,
I have a question: is a hard hat EN 12492: 2012 suitable for construction works? On the HSE website You can find http://www.hse.gov.uk/fo...2009/03/om200903app1.pdf that this standard is for leasure but MAY be found in the workplaces.
In PPE regulations it is stated that head protection should be sufficient. On this site: http://www.satrappeguide.com/EN12492.php You can find an information about 12492 standard and it is quite simillar to EN 397.
So can I allow my workers to use EN 12492 instead of 397? What will court say in case of an accident?

Look in a typical industrial supplies catalogue, who supply PPE. The relevant standards are usually mentioned in the technical details for each product.

Hi.
En 12492 (head protection) is the standard for mountaineering equipment (rightly head protection for mountaineering)
Construction works requires the standard EN 397 industrial safety helmets (1995/2012), EN 812 industrial bump caps (1997,2012) or EN 14052 high performance industrial safety helmets (2005 amended 2012)
You should use the corresponding standard for the industry as your current protection would be seen as non compliant.

From CEN - European Committee for Standardisation - the current valid publications are: Industrial Safety Helmets EN 397:2012+A1:2012 Industrial Bump Caps EN 812:2012 Respiratory protective devices - Powered filtering devices ioncorportaing a helmet or hood EN 12941:1998/AC:2008 Electrically insulating helmets for use on low voltage installations EN 50365:2002 EN 13807 parts 1 - 10 describe the various test methods e.g. shock absorption, flame resistance

Are the guys doing rope access work rather than traditional constriction? If that is the case then the standard that you mentioned might be the appropriate one.
