Hi

I wondered if anyone knew of any time that an Individual has been charged under s.33 of the HASAWA for inpersonating an Inspector?  I have googled this but the only thing I can find is an Australian incident where the individual was fined $15,000.

This is my first time on here, so if I'm in the wrong area I apologise.

Thank you

Mick

Why would anyone want to impersonate a Health & Safety Inspector ? You mean from the HSE as opposed to a company Health and safety Inspector ?

In a previous life we had somebody going round our sites strongly hinting, but without actually saying, that they were from the HSE in an attempt to sell "statutory" posters that were not needed & at a hugely inflated price.

Just recently I popped into my local takeaway & whilst talking to the owner was told that he had been visited by "a H&S Inspector" who scared the life out of him for not having an updated H&S Law Poster but was willing to sell him one. I gave him my advice & the upshot is that my helpings have increased dramatically!!

Interestingly there was an article in the Manchester Evening News from a couple of months ago whereby an alert was sent out to local businesses as someone was impersonating a LA Inspector, specifcally going into food premises from memory. Not sure if a conviction followed - let alone if they even caught the individual. An internet trawl might bring something up.
