Hi All
We have oil fired warm air heaters in commercial / industrial type premises, not domestic. I have been asking Managers to only use OFTEC registered engineers. A sub contract company have come back with the OFTEC qualified engineers they will use, but said this is only really required for domestic work. OFTEC are the only body know for this type of work ( I thought the same as gas safe for gas) is there another registration / training for Commercial / industrial ?
What do you ask for in terms of Qualification, to go with experience? To ensure competency in a industrial / commercial setting.

I would still ask for OFTEC on the basis of a measure of competency.
It's a reasonably practicable approach to selecting a competent contractor.

On the OFTEC website it does seem to suggest that the scheme is aimed at the domestic market, but, they do cover up to 2MW which is hardly domestic! Some info here: http://www.oftec.org.uk/technicians/oftec-registration-services
The other thing you could ask for is product/manufacturer specific training?

Thanks both, sorry for the delay, I tied up yesterday with ISO auditor (what fun). Yes, When I went to the OFTEC web site I thought it suggested the same, but did have little nods to Commercial. It made me wonder if there is anything out there then that is more directly aimed at non-domestic work, hence my question. I have certainly used their guidance documents aimed at Commercial / Industrial applications, (mainly to prove to an OFTEC engineer he was wrong about a potential issue he raised). Obviously OFTEC are missing a trick. Yes, I think continuing to ask for OFTEC registered is still the way to go, and is what I am maintaining is required. Obviously in this instance they have it anyway OFT10-101 & OFT10-105E which look appropriate. Again worth checking if there was anything else, so thanks Chris
