Very sad. It's unfair to blame Apple though - could have been any mobile - or tablet. 

I can see how this could happen. We are so protected now, we have forgotten how and why safety measures (no sockets, cord switches etc in bathrooms) came to be.

In the early 60s it was common to hear of people being electrocuted from having the 'new-fangled' portable radios slip from the edge of the bath - plugged in of course. As central heating had yet to arrive in most houses, people would also have an electric fire in the bathroom - and the design of these then left a lot to be desired.

We then designed this potential out in UK - hence no electrical sockets or normal light switches. Europeans didn't seem to have this concern, I suspect because showers were more usual than baths - and are obviously not a place for anything vulnerable such as a radio. Also they heated their bathrooms even back then.
