one for the fire experts as its driving me mad following a fire risk assessment on a purpose built 3 storey block of flats the only recommendation was to remove the storage from the store within the landing on the escape route and lock the fire doors
These are 30FD fire doors no smoke seals no ventilation with signage and locks attached
There is a smoke detector in the common staircase at all levels just outside the cupboard the cupboard is fire lined with no ignition sources within
The resident is queerying why he has to remove his fishing tackle and rods what is the point of having the cupboards if they cant be used would we be better just bricking them up?
All the information i have read just states that they must be kept locked shut but no info stating kept empty of combustible materials and kept locked shut
I Guess i am hoping for the definitive answer

I suspect the report has been poorly written or misinterpretted. I often ask for cupboards to be cleared of contents and secured in multi-storey dwellings IF the cupboard is a service riser. That is, it contains service utilities rising through the building, electrical services in particular. Purely from the point of view of separating combustibles from ignition sources. Since you mention there are no ignition sources in these cupboards, I suspect they are cupboards used for residents to store items in. Yes they should be locked to prevent arson and theft of the contents but if there are no ignition sources within then there are no problems.
