So long and thanks for all the fish! My membership of IOSH lapses tonight - and I doubt I will be returning here very often. I have been extremely fortunate in the 37 years or more that I have worked in Health and Safety to have worked with some really great people (and some not so much!). I have delivered a lot of work that I am proud of (and some not so much....) I take away a host of memories and a certain smug sense of achievement. Failing health has forced me into early retirement - and I am exceptionally lucky that a large part of my pension is now paying (I would be destitute otherwise!) My advice to all you younger whippersnappers now in the profession is to ensure - whilst you are taking care of your employer's and clients, whilst you are looking out for the employees and contractors who rely on you - is to look out for yourself as well. Make sure you are setting asside enough for a rainy day. Don't work yourself into the ground for others, don't allow your own health to be damaged by the passion and commitment you bring to your work for others. When its gone, its gone, and no-one else will be looking out for you! Now... where did I put that fishing rod! Edited by user 31 March 2017 11:37:57(UTC)

Steve, As far as I know, I have never met you but have known you as a digital presence round these parts for quite some while and know you will be missed here.

Have you thought about 'Retired membership'? Actually its called Concessionary Membership [I have it]
I continue with CPD, [in case I want to start work again], but I believe it isn't essential
Cost - £36 a year - if interested, talk to Membership Section.

Steve I'm sure I have benefitted from your experience and knowledge at sometimes in the past.
I am actually ahead of you, 2 years an OAP but still keeping my hand in. The worst thing about retirement is the spare time you will have to try to fill. I keep fairly busy by working for a small contractor on his CDM documents etc. Keeps me going and the wolves from the door. I wish you a long and healthy retirement, and take care of yourself.
