I assume you are referring to a Safety Climate Survey, which measures the prevailing culture within the organisation. These are normally a set of questions or statements for responders to complete with a Likert 5 point scale. The best way to do this is through an online survey like Survey Monkey to ensure confidentiality is maintained.

The questions or statements are normally divided into domains i.e. supervision, communication, behaviours, etc, in order to easily analyse the results. There are some do's and dont's if you want to ensure a successful survey, PM me if you want some further information.

Apologies I thought this was the tool I had accessed before. Apparently not. The CAPTIAL LETTERS emphasising my mistake.

The actual tool used was this one: http://www.hse.gov.uk/st.../standards/downloads.htm

It was developped with workplace stress in mind, so might not be right for what you need.

thanks 1 user thanked WatsonD for this useful post.

Do you mean risk perception or hazard spotting?

The first one is about what risks you have identified and want to prioritise. That is a strategic decision for the company.

Hazard spotting is what the guys on the ground do (or don’t do). The tendency is for people to go for their “favourite” hazards and ignore ones which they don’t understand eg maybe COSHH type risks on construction sites.

Thanks for all your help, the risk perception is important but hazard spotting is an exercise we want to go through with our operatives too.
