We have just relocated one of our sites and I noticed someone has painted the red fire sounders to match in with the wall/lazyness which is a cream colour and so is now difficult to spot. Would these still comply or is there a British standard that states they must be red in colour?

The one in sight of my desk is black (and that's apparently the colour the manufacturer made it) so I hope not.

I'm looking at a white one now.

Does the colour of the sounder affect the noise level from the sounder? If this is a significant issue....

You need to be able to hear the sounder, not see it

BS EN 54-3:2014 Fire detection and fire alarm systems. Fire alarm devices. Sounders

specifies the requirements, test methods and performance criteria for fire alarm sounders in a fixed installation

Don't have a copy to hand to see if a particular colour is specified

Not sure the manufacturer instructions would condone application of a layer of paint though (the recent installation of new smoke detectors at home even came with "shower caps" to protect the device during any post installation decorating).

Just checked the standard cited above, no mention of colour requirements.

I think I'd be more concerned that they'd painted it - you can buy white ones if you want to match your decor!
