Two of my employees use a cradle for window cleaning on a customers site. This cradle is suspended from the top of the building and the operators can move it up / down / sideways.
Does anyone know if any training is required for it's use?

Do you need training to use complex work at height equipment?! Er. Yes. Make sure its specific to the cradle and involves a practical demonstration/assessment in all its possible configurations. The maintenance company typically provide this training as part of a a contract but the quality can vary from 10 minutes on the roof with a signature to a half day plus in the cradle itself.

Off-course, a training is required because it is work on height and must be done with perfection. If the operators do not have information about it or he have not got a training then it is a straight way to call danger. You must give him training first and then allow him to do it.

I am aware that the client must provide training for my employees as it is his equipment on his site and this should tie in with my RAMS and training for the task but what I want to know is there any professional training for the cradles i.e like the IPAF 3a for scissors lifts.
I have been in touch with IPAF who pointed me in the direction of SAEMA who haven't replied yet. Just wondering if anyone had come across this before?

SAEMA are the trade association whose members will install and maintain such equipment. It will be their members who are best placed to deliver the training but there isn't a recognised standard such as in other fields of work at height. With any luck you've got a SAEMA member already servicing and maintaining the equipment. BMU's are often bespoke these days and site challenges probably will be too so training/instruction is therefore best being bespoke.
