I loved Glastonbury this year, again (watched on TV wishing I was there). So much good music and the atmosphere looked fab and the weather was kind.

I was thinking how I would love to be involved but when I really thought about it my mind was blown about what needs to be considered for health and safety at an event like this.

Has anybody here got experience with this? Do you actually get to enjoy the event or is it all work and no play?

Had a few chances to do this as an environmental health volunteer but never done so.

As I understood the offer it was about working agreed shifts but then your 'pay' is ticket etc. and you will get sufficient time to make use of it.  No idea of what the genuinely paid version of this is like.

With regard what is considered....yeah.  Stupendous undertaking and one in which they've grown and learnt as time goes on.

I recall being told that if you're local and not at the site, but are hurt or unwell, then the best medical aid is likely to now be in the heart of the festival rather than trying to get to A&E!

If you search the SHPonline site there is a very good article about the festival from the safety person behind the planning. Take care Johnc

have worked for a contractor based there for a number of years. got home late last night. There are plenty of different roles that pop up regularly, usually the case of just getting your foot in the door.

Some are full time and pretty full on with long days and others offer on a volunteer basis of 2-3 hours a day over the weekend for a ticket and 'staff perks' (nice showers / meals / better camping areas/cheaper beer/guest ticket)

There is a Safety Advisory Group in Events (SAGE) which posts regular full time contract event H&S work along with industry guidance, that do some great pro active work. if you can build up a bit of experince and some networking would see you getting around there a bit if thats what you are interested in doing.

feel free to drop me and inbox and can point you in the right direction
