I am looking through teh DSEAR regs at the moment and have been unable to find confirmation if there is a maximum volume of oxyacetalene that could be stored within vehicle garage? There may also be some waste oil stored close by. I need to clear up a question that has been asked.
Thanks

I don't think that there is a quantity stated anywhere for oxy-acetylene sets just the the principle only to hold the level of stock that you need. There is something somwhere about the maximum volume of acetylene and the storage medium but I can't find it at the moment. Where the waste oil is concerned the flash point consideration has now been extended so that materials not previously considered as highly flammable (eg diesel) now fall into that category upper limit is now 60C so I would advise no more than 50L to be stored internally. Here is a link to the relevant bit of the HSE website http://www.hse.gov.uk/fi...ear-background.htm#when.

I don’t think there is a quantity as such. However, I’m sure I have read that the storage of spare bottles should be outside, not inside. The storage outside should separate the oxygen and acetylene cages by 3m ( ie the two gasses are 3m apart). What you can keep inside is a set, which is in use, which is secured to a trolley with regulators etc on the bottles and obviously all shut off when not in use.
Internet search BCGA code of practice 44.
You will need to obviously need to do a DSEAR assessment as you note from your OP. A big workshop may I guess have more than one set in play. Fire risk assessors have kittens when they see the sets!
The oil I assume you refer to is old engine oil (not fuel oil), look at SDS for flash point, but doubt it will be a problem as noted above, but worth a check.

I should have also said when stored outside make sure the cages are suitably labelled, ie for acetylene. No smoking, Compressed gas, flammable etc. Not sure myself if they should be the new or if they can still be the old signage. Ie the old compressed gas was a green diamond with gas bottle pictogram and the words compressed gas. The new CLP is a white diamond with red border and just the gas bottle pictogram.
I’m sure others will confirm.

I doubt you have 5 tonnes of the stuff, but if you do you're in Lower tier COMAH scope
