I am based the far north of Scotland and am looking for someone to certify our racking. I am struggling to get a SEMA inspector, one being long term sick and the other not replying to calls/messages.
Who do you use for this and/or are there alternatives to SEMA?

We use a specialist racking company who come in twice per year and do a full inspection on our racking and then quote for remedial works as requested. Myself and a colleague are going to carry out the SEMA inspectors course soon so that we can do interim inspections of the racking ourselves each month. I am sure that there must be some racking providers in the North of Scotland.

Have you tried the SEMA search facility? http://www.sema.org.uk/m...ounty=&country=&
If you search by country (Scotland) it comes up with three based in Aberdeen so should be at least one you havent tried among them. if no joy, then maybe try the other Scottish based inspectors - some of them may be willing to travel?

Thanks for that, although if you look closer then you will see that two are actually the same company. We are actually based 126 miles away from Aberdeen, so we are struggling to get anyone who is prepared to travel (understandible I suppose) which is why I am looking at alternatives to SEMA. There doesnt seem to be any.

Must admit I didn't look that closely :-)
According to google when you do a search for racking inspections in northern scotland a lot of the SEMA approved companies claim to do UK-wide surveys. Of course, as you've already alluded to - whether they consider the wilds of Scotland as 'part of the UK' may prove to be a stretch of their description. Maybe give a few a call and ask if they cover the whole of the UK and check dates they can visit before stating where you are based (to avoid them finding themselves too busy to attend that particular week).

While i would always use a SEMA inspector if i could as its good to have the industry backing its not a legal requirement, as im sure you know, the inspector just has to be competent. If you are finding it so difficult to get an inspection you could look at training someone from your own company to do the inspections. this could be more cost effective in the long run. Or have you tried any racking installation companies local to yourself. Some will offer an inspection service.
