Hi Our Estates people want to know if there is any guidance or literature that states you need specific training to be able to erect and dismantle scaffolding or scaffolding towers on stairs? They have done the PASMA tower scaffold training but the HSE website says and it says that scaffold on stairs or fire escapes is classed as requiring a bespoke design, and a bespoke design should be undertaken by a competent person, to ensure it will have adequate strength, rigidity and stability while it is erected, used and dismantled. Do they need something extra and what might that be?

I thought people on this forum loved questions about scaffolding!

How would self-employed painters and decorators fit into this one? (reason I ask, my parents need their stairway painted and it would require scaffolding of some description for the person to reach the top corners). They're about to ask a friend of a friend (who has done someone else in the row) but not sure if the guy has his own business or just does cash in hand at the weekend sort of thing!

Hi
In addition to their standard tower scaffold training, PASMA also do a separate "towers on stairs" course (please see link below). It's not clear which PASMA training your people have undertaken (so apologies if they've taken this course), but might be a useful starting point if not ?
