Can someone tell me if there needs to be a fixed guard on a machine bed or a removable guard? Im well aware of guards preventing access to moving parts (the cutter and cuttings) but at a company Ive just started for theyre not using any as all they have are fixed guards that cover the whole machine bed and apparently the jobs they do,.the guards dont allow the jobs to be securely clamped so theyre after some advice.Cheers

Fixed guards are preferrable to moveable guards.

You should follow the guarding hierarchy given in Reg 11 of the PUWER.

How old is the milling machine? There are plenty of machine guarding specialist companies to give further advice. Just Google
