Hi All One of my colleagues is under the impression that companys have to be FONZA accredited to install fire doors? I have searched for FONZA online and nothing comes up. Do fire doors have to be installed by an accredited fitter or do the doors themselves just have to be rated, if so what are theese ratings? Any help would be apreciated. Kind Regards Alex

Alex - I myself have never heard of FONZA. Could they mean FENSA? If so - they are a Competent Person Scheme, which allows a form of 'self-certification' of compliance under the Building Regs.

FENSA is a double glazing installation scheme where in effect the installers register their own compliance with building regs. As far as I am aware, its got nothing to do with fire doors. Lots of chippys say they can fit a fire door, but it is a specialist trade. You must by law employ a competent person and that might mean someone with more skills than hanging a door. There are rules and specialised products for filling around the door frame for example, something that is often missed by a bog standard chippy who may prefer a rolled up copy of The Sun and some expanding foam! There are many accrediation schemes available via Goolge. Or if you choose a local tradesman, ask him/her to sign a document certifying the door is fitted to BS 476-22:1987 or BS EN1634-1:2014 (or whatever is the stadard you need for the particular door)
So not accredited (although that is best practice) but the person must be competent

He will mean someone who is third oarty certified you will be looking at FIRAS, or go to the British Woodworking Federation. Just be careful I inspected ours after spending a lot of money and they were not fitted correctly, we had to report them to FIRAS who removed the certifcate until it was put right. You don't have to use anyone if you have competent people to do it, just remeber you cannot remove the certificate at the top of the door.

"sign a document certifying the door is fitted to BS 476-22:1987 or BS EN1634-1:2014"?
Correct test methods for determining the performance of the door i.e. 30 minute / 1 hour etc. rating of the product Installation is normally by industry guidance e.g. http://www.bwfcertifire.org.uk/knowledge-centre/installation
