Good Evening all,
I am keen to share knowledge and experiences with other
Safety professionals within Aviation and Aerospace aircraft maintenance. I find
it is quite a unique and niche industry and think it would be good to share
ideas, knowledge and experiences to try and improve safety "on the shop floor
“so to speak. I would be particularly interested in speaking about Fuel tank
safety, refueling and defueling of aircraft, working at height on top of aircraft, general Safety culture within
maintenance teams and Human factors.
I find it’s a very fast paced industry, with very high
pressures placed on aircraft maintenance teams which can often lead to corners
being cut and engineers placing themselves at risk to "get the job
done". This often boils down to poor safety culture and poor
leadership/management.
From the couple of people I have managed to speak with in
the industry, it appears we share the same issues. I would be interested to
hear from others on their experiences.
Many thanks in advance
Matt

Civil aviation maintenance comes under the remit of the Civil Aviation Authority, I believe there is a Memorandum of Understanding between the HSE and the CAA EASA Pt 66 licence. While there will/is useful HSE guidance that can assist aircraft maintenance engineers - CAA requirments take priority in terms of direct work on aircraft/air wothiness requirements etc Ex aircraft engineer
