Hi. My company have planned removal of asbestos and work is scheduled for 3 months. Obviously we deal with approved contractors however can you please advice what documentation they have to provide and what company have to do before letting them start the job..i know they should provide RAMS however we never dealt with asbestos removal before. Thank you

Hi,

Just some suggestions to start you off:-

Are you the one who is going to oversee the works on behalf of the Client?

I would recommend a good look at the HSE’s website with regards to Asbestos.

Is the work notifiable – if so has that been done?

Is it licensed work – is the chosen contractor’s license current?

Are all of their staff suitably trained?

Is all equipment fit for purpose?

You want confirmation of waste disposal – documentary evidence.

If you feel that you are out of your depth perhaps you should engage an experienced-

qualified person to assist you?

Don’t sign things off if you are not sure.

Cheers

Andy

Apart from the RAMS you will require a Construction Phase Plan (CPP) from the asbestos removal contractor, which should articulate all the details as a client you would need to know e.g site set-up, waste storage, disposal, air clearance cert, etc.

What kind of removel works is it? Will it require analytical works along side it?

Do you know of any isolations that are going to be required, with a decon unit be required- if so where is this being set up- do you need to provide access to facilities etc?
