Would you record a broken nose as major injury under Riddor, was result in falling in a warehouse?

Having checked the list of "specified injuries" in the guidance I would say yes you report it as a major injury because it is not in the hand or foot.   Effectively a broken nose could be classed as a skull fracture and pre-supposes a blow to the head which in my book makes reporting as a specified injury more fitting.

If the injury ‘broken nose’ was diagnosed by doctor and you have the evidence of it (eg medical report / sick note) then yes, you need to report it under RIDDOR.

This would be classed as a fracture incl. a crack, break or chip.

Remember as per HSE guidance – ‘self-diagnosed’ fractures are not reportable. (unless they are over 7 days injuries but then it falls under different criteria of RIDDOR)

Fractures, other than to fingers, thumbs and toes

Bone fractures include a break, crack or chip. They are reportable when diagnosed or confirmed by a doctor, including when they are specified on a GP ‘fit note’. In some cases, there may be no definitive evidence of a fracture (eg if an X-ray is not taken), but the injury will still be reportable if a doctor considers it is likely that there is a fracture. Self-diagnosed ‘suspected fractures’ are not reportable.

Be clear is it a bone fracture in the nose or is it the cartilage......
