Ok, so my previous post was me pulling my hair out in regards to not finding a job in the Health and Safety Sector, as I mentioned I am gutted but still being optimistic and continually applying, I have put down my engineering background as experience but no luck so far. I want to continue studying, but in another field, I realised a lot of managers/project managers and other roles benefit from a degree in applied health and safety, I did want to do an environmental/lead audit course but as I mentioned before it feels like the Health and Safety sector wants candidates with tons of experience and there seems to be few decent paid roles out there (unless your high up). Does anyone have any suggestions of a good course/degree/diploma to pair up with my degree in health and safety? So far I've been mulling over project management, business management, and similar related courses...your opinions would help me a great deal!

Hi, Over the years I've been able to mix HR with H&S . Whilst I specialised in HR it has been advantageous to use opportunities presented through employee relations work to participate in various aspects of cross over work between HR & H&S challenges. I was also an officer in the Combined Cadet Force where my work centred around H&S where there was an insistence from the MOD that there was a safety officer for each unit. I also helped with a local residences association supporting practical risk assessments for park use and so forth.

Never fails to amaze me how many people are 'trying' to get into this profession, very good advice is given here but i'm not so sure there is a perfect solution or whether the present day is a good or bad time (employment). So much of it seems to be the right place at the right time.

Environment is often tacked on to H&S roles, but the companies that do this often don't tend to be very bothered about environmental qualifications or experience as they are only really concerned with safety. Other companies however are more serious about environment and include it as a real element of H&S&E roles, in which case an environmental qualification might be helpful. Quality is also often part of the remit, your engineering experience may have given you some exposure to this that you can point out.
