I will be retiring this week with my last day at work on Friday 9th March. I did consider some sort of role in h&s to keep me interested, indeed I stood last year for an IOSH Counsellor but alas I was unsucsseful. I will renew my IOSH membership for one more year as I will consider maybe a couple of days a week role if its convenient. If not, it's sun, sea and golf!

I have been an avid user of these forums for the best part of 20 years and now it's time to smell the flowers. I will miss the banter and ocassional bun fighting. That brings me nicely round to the Mods who do a great job keeping everyone in check (including me on a few ocassions) - thank you.

Regards to all and best wishes.

as a reader more than a writer on this forum, I do always look out for your knowledgable posts and I hope you will still keep commenting on here.

Says a lot about IOSH if they turned you down to be honest!

Good luck in your retirement and enjoy getting the handicap down.

All the best for whatever the future brings Ray and David. Not sure if our paths ever crossed, but you both earned great respect from me for your sane, rational, proportionate, knowledgeable and 'expert' contributions to these forums. The profession as a whole is losing a very great deal of hard-earned experience as the conveyor of time carries people into retirement. Thankful that conveyor has been, for you two, sufficiently well guarded to prevent you falling off the sides. Now hope the delivery chute on the other side is similarly protected to give long happy and productive retirements... So long and thanks for all the fish!

Ray, many thanks for all the valuable contributions I have read over the years. Hope you will pop in here occasionally. I ‘retired’ in January but still keep my business open for a few SME’s that regularly ask me for audits and training So now you join the grumpy old gits club. What has made me grumpy at 65 was a) I don’t get full state pension (apparently my employer opted out some NI contributions) b) state pension is ‘taxable’ so my tax code instead of 1100 is now 500 which effectively means my company pension is 100% taxed and has reduced by £200 a month. grump grump All the best Ray JohnW

All the best in your retirement (likewise David) and don't be a stranger just because you are retired - it's always amusing for those of us still fighting the good fight to hear quips from the sidelines. Sometimes it helps us keep our sense of perspective.

I think it is always sad when people leave the discussion forum for any reason, especially those that have helped others by contributing so much.

All the best for the future to you both, drop in and laugh at the rest of us from time to time, as we grumble at the DSE and CDM regs, endlessly debate if it is actually work related regarding RIDDOR, and see who is currently throwing their toys out the pram. (yes I have bickered a little with those that have helped me, but never intended any malice, normally grateful for assistance on specific topics)

Nothing will ever change, except the people.

Are you both sure that complete retirement is actually possible once you have joined the H&S club? Give it a good go anyway.

Regards

Chris

Hi Ray

Welcome to the club

A serious point come to mind. Losing access to all this knowledge

How do we -IOSH even- although I suspect it will be  the 'too-hard box' try and distil, collect, etc etc and make accessible to members this knowledge? In what form? An IOSH library? Info source? Research project, eh?

Anyway, have fun on the golf courses of Spain-pop over the border to France-near Carcassonne if

Best regards

Mike
