Hi Thunderchild Legionella has been known to grow in coolants normally used with CNC mills and lathes. More information: http://www.hse.gov.uk/metalworking/legionella.htm

Just a starter:-
Biological growth does occur in most mixed fluids after a time especially if they experience periods of non-movement i.e. the cutting fluids used in a lathe can be held in a reservoir for some time before being pumped into use.
That is why is important to changes these fluids regularly.
If they are contaminated,as in the lathe example, then they can become air borne and inhaled when the equipment is in use.
In this case I would think that it would be classified as a toxic biological inhalation if it led to any
harm being caused.
Cheers
Andy

Thanks for the replies. I need to check but I believe that the coolant comes in from the supplier, is used on the cutting tool and then goes in to contaminated waste barrels for removal. No recyling.......as far as I know.

RR910 on the hse website might help if the mix is a metalworking fluid.
